Flaybrick Remembrance Service - Nov 2024

An Armistice Day service honouring those who made the ultimate sacrifice defending their country took place at Flaybrick Memorial Gardens in Birkenhead on Monday, November 11th 2024.

Bidston Avenue Primary School took part in the event, once again, with nearly 300 children paying their respects.

Amongst those attending the service were the Deputy Lieutenant of Merseyside, Dr Nicholas Jedynakiewicz, who laid a wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King; The Mayor, councillor Cherry Povall JP and Mayoress Sheila Clarke MBE, A representative of Birkenhead MP Alison McGovern and The Friends of Flaybrick.

The service was led by Reverend Keith Addenbrooke from St James’s Church and Reverend Joe Smith from St Oswald’s Church, and a lament, Flowers of the Forest, was played on bagpipes by Professor Calum Semple OBE.

As in previous years, children from Bidston Avenue Primary School a poem.  This year is was The Soldier, a poem by Rupert Brooke.
